I have 93 325is, the Rear Deck uses 4" 2 way speaker. Check http://www.crutchfield.com. There prices are kinda high but their website allows you to search for your car and they will tell you the replacements for all of the speakers in your car.

I heard that with some minor modifications you can fit a 5.25" speaker in the rear and still have a sealed box when done properly, so ... don't limit yourself to what was there in the first place.

i would love to know how to do that. i need some boom in my ride....but not too much. if you have links please post

If you want some boom, but not too much, you can just add a Basslink. Just throw it in the trunk and make the connections, there you go, instant boom. I don't think 5.25s will be able to push that much bass but then again, if you want to upgrade your whole system, you can go with those first and if you want more boom, add a sub.

5.25's arent subs, they are mids. therefore you can't get them to play good bass at all. they sound like they do, but you are going to mess up your speakers by trying to get them to play sub-frequencies. if you want bass, i suggest an 8 inch sub, it wont get very low, but if you dont want to take up much space, its the answer to your question.
