nope. They don't touch it. I assume that you're talking about an autobox?

If so, then you should probably change it. BMW mechanics will complain and say that it's a "life of component" fluid. However, from much discussion, I've found that replacing the tranny fluid for the automatics prolongs their (relatively short) life.

I would not let the transmission fluid go longer than 100k. I would look at replacing the fluid between 70k-100k. Independent mechanics recommend 70k. I think it only cost me $125 to change the fluid in my 5, so its relatively cheap (considering tranny fluid changes every 30k).

the car has 135,000 miles, and has only been to the dealership for service. so, i'm assuming that the tranny fluid has never been changed since they consider it "lifetime". now the quandary, do i change the fluid now or just let it go? i have had advice for leaving it and for changing it. a friend of mine has a aamco transmission shop, and he says that if it hasn't been changed consistently, then to let it go, as long as it is not low on fluid. he says a lot of people come into the shop, not bmw's, with a 100,000 miles or so on a tranny, and they service the tranny, and then all of a sudden, they start having slippage problems. any one have some bmw advice?

Your transmission should be change every inspection II, This information is in your service warranty information book.(E-36-048). If your car had an inspection II performed than your transmission was service.
