To my knowledge when the temperature is not in the middle and over it then there is usually problems? I read it on this forum somewhere.

I recently bought a 328i 1995 - 155 000km's from a reputable dealer with 2 year guarantee or 50 000Km's

The bimmer is in a perfect condition. Very neat and well cared for. I had the car for about a month and being weary of new second hand cars I always keep an eye on the temperature, and that type of thing to be sure it's in good condiftion. So, I noticed the temperature go over the half mark and almost in the red. Luckilly I wasn't far from home, ... drove home and didn't drive further. The whole time the temperature did'nt go in the red.

I called the dealership and they came to tow the car to the dealership. They say they replaced the radiator because it had a crack. Today I fetched the car and about 10km's later the temperature went over half again maybe 3/4 of the way. Phoned them and they towed it once again to the dealership. At this time the dealership was closed and nobody to talk with.

I can't think that this type of thing is normal.

Anybody maybe know what could be causing this. I understand that BMW's and high temperatures don't mix?

Thanks for any info you can provide me with.

Sounds like it could be as simple as a thermastat. But if they replaced an entire radiator, i can only assume they checked that thermastat first. other than that i can't say much more.

by the way - welcome to the forum [;)]

I'm not too sure about this myself, but if the car had crud coolant used in it, the aluminum radiator could be trashed. Personall, I would suspect the thermostat myself.

Are there any coolant sensors that could cause this type of over heating?

Thanks for the welcome frolf and thanks for the info. I love this car, except for what it's doing now but hope it will be sorted out soon. I'll post the solution to the problem if anybody is interested.

Been thinking it's wierd because I was going through heavy traffic.. like stop, go stop go, .. and the car didn't overheat.. just after about 10km's the needle went over half and by that time the car has warmed up long ago.

Doubt that a head gascet blew because I asked the dealer to check for damage and they said there were none. Many thanks for your insights.
