Strange noise in the morning

Whenever I start my car in the morning and put it in gear, it starts to make little sqeeking noises. This happens for both drive and reverse while at idle. As soon as you hit the gas, the noise goes away. The noise is somewhat similar to a loose fan belt but lower in pitch and not constant.

Once again, this only occurs while the car is cold. Any ideas?

I think Big Daddy's comment is where to look. Sometimes a cold, loose or contaminated belt will make a squeaking or chirping noise that goes away after a minute or so. Open the hood and listen around the belts.

I had a tensioner pulley go on mine in the first month. Sounded like a faint rythmic squeak-squeak-squeak... that disappeared after the car warmed up.

Dealer replaced it under warranty, bye bye squeak.

Once again the board diagnostic team is right on the money I think......

If it is a tensioner try starting the car when cold and shoot some wd40 at the tensioner. If it lubes up and quits squeaking you know what to do next. I did this and it would stop until next time it was cold, do not use this as a fix. Let us know what you find.

Very well could be a pulley, supprising on a new car though. I will have to start the car while its cold and have someone put it in gear while I have the hood up to see if I can hear where it is coming from better. I never heard it before with the windows up, but my wife described it as a grinding sound. I just assumed this was the breaks and had the dealer check them when I had to get an ignition coil replaced [mad] , but they didn't find anything wrong. Now that I have actually heard the sound, hopefully I will be able to at least locate it and explain it to the dealer better. I'm pretty sure that it's not a belt - I have heard enough of those in my life that I would highly doubt it, could still be possible, but I highly doubt it.

Yep, i had the exact same thing...warms up and all is fine...but it will progressively get worse.....regrettably I didn't get mine done under waranty!! I was able to isolate which pulley it was by using some lubricant...it turned out not to be either of the two self-tensioners but one of the main pulleys.

I have an appointment for the 15th to have it looked at. Good thing it's under waranty.
