I was wondering how many 328 drivers have used the Shark Injector. I put a chip in my 325 and noticed a big difference in performance but it was about $125 less than the SI. $350 is hte best price I have found for the SI and that's kind of expensive if the gains arent going to be dramatic. What's the word? worth it or not?

VANCE has one like he said. Too expensive for my taste as I still have no independent dyno results....plus, the CAI is an arm and a leg. I would imagine a few HP but not anything drastic. Please don't be mad VANCE, just being the devils advocate. Also, I have a automatic so raising the redline will not really help me much, or raising the top speed....as I drive in the city and would really not feel real comfortable taking my now 7 year old car to its limits at top speed......

Draw backs...besides the high price, mapped to use Premium to take advantage of what programming they could tap out from the good BMW program they had to work with...not going to be dramatic. Cold Air Intakes or Ram Air Intakes....they only make decent power at highway speed. Again, this is just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions....LOL. There are just a few other things I could do with the BMW and use the money on. Have I modded cars before....yep, even with my Z28....replacing MAF ends, descreening, adding open exhaust cutout.....pretty cheap mods....but did not do much with stock internals. Again, not a slam on anyone, just thinking with the checkbook first. For me to plop down well over 500 bucks for the package, better give me some good results....[;)]

i'm also seriously thinking about getting the shark injector as well. after speaking to some friends that are knowledgable about modding cars i've come to these conclusions. first unless you plan on taking your car to the track don't get too worked up about total hp gains. the biggest point to focus on is looking at how much low-mid range torque (area under the curve) you can add. does anyone know what the increase in torque is for the 328i?

Personally, I have a Conforti Chip in my 325 and have heard nothing bad about Conforti's upgrades compared to other manufacturer's chips/injectors. More often than not, most people that have tried more than one upgrade will recommend the Shark!

Please recognize the key term there, "people that have tried MORE than one upgrade".

I wonder about people doing a ECU upgrade more than once though, also, in reality, a 35 dollar EBAY special CAI if you make a cheap heat shield....will do the same as a 300 dollar one. Thing is that the CAI works at speed. The sucking sound from the air box deletion is not the sound of major HP gains. The heat shield is pretty easy to make with sheet metal and a dremmel. Some CAI look better than others, some are carbon fiber some are not. The best ones are long tubes ducted near the lower air dam. Actually, some PVC pipe, a bracket, a universal K&N.....you have a low dollar CAI. Add some sheet metal, and some weather stripping, you have a hear shield if you choose the route of not ducting it lower. Still.....it is alot of money for a tube, a air filter, and a few clamps that may make it sound nice, but not any noticable gain. Again, just my opinion.

Hey, I went that route before......the engine looked pretty nice....but was alot cheaper for a lid on my Z28 than the E36. All aftermarket parts so far for the BMW are pretty insane with prices and HP gains are minimal with no one posting anything but seller dyno posts.

I know the pain with trial and error, but with my last engine throwing out over 300HP....I learned a few things about what worked and what was BS...or I would throw a Vornado...a leaf blower supercharger on the BMW.....LOL.

This was the only car people asked me what was under the hood.[;)]

spoke to the owner of bavrian machining, which is a local bmw specialist shop. i asked him what i could do to make my bimmer faster and all he did was smile back with this grin. basically he said that bimmers are unfortunately very difficult to get huge gains just by adding a performance chip, cai, exhaust, etc. he explained that bmw's are engineered very close to their max potential. although you would notice some gains, it would still fall short for most people. he said one of the best things to look into was getting a higher gear differential....although i'm not sure how he would do this. can anyone explain the gear differential thing?

the way i understand it... your final drive ratio is about 3.23 : 1...what that means is every time the wheels turn once the driveshaft will turn 3.23 times..the higher you go the faster the rpm's go up

From what I understand...one of the advantages of the shark is that you can download the software as many times as you would like, on the car you first install it on. This would be helpful if you ever take the car in for service and someone resets the computer to the default settings... then you simply plug and play when you get back home. I would have to agree with most posts that bmw's are high performance from the get go, so trying to add more just becomes expensive. If you really want performace, swap out your motor for an M3 motor and no more mods are needed. I have been considering a UUC Motorwerks EVO 3 shortshifter, just to improve the sporty feel and pleasure of driving the car. Not that it increases the power in anyway....but will definatel increase the smile on my face.
