I bought a second hand 325ic with noisey lifeters and the seller said"these motors sound this way". The dealer said no way and after inspection found many lifters bad. I had all lifters replaced and it stil tick, tick, ticks! I changed the oil to 15-40 so I know what is in there and drove 250 miles but I still hear it. How can that be? I will admit it is not as loud as berore the job.

Couple things....

1.) are you sure its the lifters, fuel injectors click and are many times mistaken for lifter noise. If the injectors are worn or dirty, the can get louder also. Just a thought, in any case you may want to run some techron through your car.

2.) lifter noise can be caused by air in the oil passages. Under hard cornering, air can get sucked in through the oil pickup and that air can prevent the lifters from pumping up fully, causing lifter noise. Other causes are faulty oil pickups, etc. There is a way to bleed the oil system to get rid of any air. I'll see if I can track down that document.

it might just be a valve displacement... i had the same problem with my e30 and i took it to the dealer and it doesnt make that stupid ticking anymore... so maybe that would help.
