i have a 1990 e30 318i and im looking at swapping out the oem air intake to a K&N pod filter, i was told once i have done that i should reset my ecu but i dont know how.. any help will be greatly appreciated.
You don't need to/can't on an e30. They don't have "learning" ecu's so it won't make any difference.
Newer models "learn" your driving style and motor and adjust accordingly. Occaisionally it can be helpful to reset the ecu so it can relearn from a clean slate. This is NOT the case with e30's.

Hey mate, welcome to bmwboard!
I'd suggest replacing your standard paper air filter with a K&N panel replacement off ebay (cheaper than our Repco's and Supercheap auto's etc..)
Your m42 powered e30 would not gain anything other than an intake noise with a pod filter IMO
What state in Aussie are you from? I'm in NSW south coast.
