Just got my 330i PP above 1500 miles so i decided to see how fast she really is. Car and Driver claim they get 0-60 in 5.6 seconds while BMW says it will get to 60 in 5.9 seconds. 3 tenths of a second isnt that big of a deal. However i was out driving with my friends G-Tech Pro in the windshield and the fastest time i could pull was 7 seconds. WHATS UP.. Am i really that bad of a driver. My previous 323i was automatic so i admit that i am not 100% at manual but i have been driving a 5 speed long before i got my new 330 manual. Am i just rusty or are the drivers at C&D that much better. I know they prep the track allot and i know they are great drivers but will it really make a second and 1/2 difference. Will i ever get a time of 5.9 seconds?????????? thanks

I'm guessing that you're babying the car. To achieve a true 0-60 time, they're pushing the car to it's limits. You can't be afraid of revving it or of the ensuing noise off the engine you'll hear. Plus (and I'm NOT saying you're a bad driver), being experienced with a manual transmission does make a big difference. You race two identical cars side by side and the more experienced driver is going to win off the start every time. 7 seconds is much too long. to get proper launch times - (as I have read) you have to rev the engine to the optimum rpm and drop the clutch. I don't do this very often at all. It eats up the clutch and I like my bimmers to last a long time. By the way - you have to turn off ASC - to fully turn it off you have to hold down the button for 5 seconds.

Disable traction control and get a good launch...rev the engine and drop the clutch at the exact point where your tires let out a chirp without spinning out or anything. Also, you gotta be real quick with the shifting. You're probably not shifting as fast as you really can, but you think you are. I have faith in you, you can do it !!!!
yea, turn off the dsc by holding on to it for 3-5 secs. wait for the brake light to turn yellow before releasing.
btw, the 5.9 sec times are for a high rev, clutch dropping hard launch. street times are more tame around 6.5 secs? or something.. and the car mag drivers? yea, they are that good, not only that, that's what they do for living, so of course they'll get better at it over the years too.. shifting speed and clutch catching will result in coupla tenths here and there on the shift.. even if only upto 2nd gear..

thank you MrElussive, i was just going to comment about gas. Test with minimum gas in your car, also to get a good launch disable DSC, and with the amount of grip you have probably drop the clutch around 2800rpm, but this is all trial and error. If i drop below 2400 in my 328iS i bog, and if drop about 3000my tires should completely roast (but instead my old clutch slips) Optimum launch for me is about 2700-2750. Ship as fast and hard as you can, but please let off the gas, its not that hard, and you won' thave to say goodbye to your clutch and gears.
but yeah, big things to note are gas (roughly 8lbs per gallon) traction control, and what rpm's to launch at, because you DO WANT WHEEL SPIN, just not a ton.
