hey BMWboy, welcome aboard. What kind of mods do you want to do? If you are looking for.....

all around fun:
tires are the best mod you can have

power:
chip (see: $400 with a 3bhp gain [V])
exhaust (see: $900+)
intake (rig one up yourself)

handling:
tires
H&R Springs and Bilstein shocks (bread and butter for bmw, $700ish?)
sway bars ($200 a piece i think)

braking:
again tires are the best mod here...
slotted or drilled rotors (big price range, but they don't do a ton)
you could upgrade to e34 m5 brakes or somethign like that

i don't know, this is just a stab at your question late at night, so i'm sure i left something out important.

i haven't looked in to short shifters in a while, but i think ACS and Dinan make decent stuff, though over priced. the only reason why i may chip my car is that the speed limiter is too low for me, but i wouldn't chip for power. well, i would chip right away if i did an exhaust or intake. seriously some sway bars and a short shift would make yoru car a hoot

bmwboy spend the $1000 (or at least some of it) on fixing the climate controls, the rest on tires like frolf said. I'm sure working climate controls that don't shut off are more impressive/fun than some mods outside the car, and climate controls which shut off IMO.

i dont need new tires cause i have practicly new good tires. also the climate control is not counted on the budegt cause i alredy factored that in. i need some hard core afteramarket mods that wont hurt my wallet. and acutally i have less than 1000.

we need to know what you WANT in your mods. $1k does'nt get you far, so you need to decided on a direction to take. if its handling or power, and then break it down again.

as far as exhausts go, i got mine for $250. there are other exhausts in the $300-$500 range. as for intake, you probably wont even notice the gains(if any). or you could go with the suspension mods.

@bmwboy

how much money do you want to spend on perfomance parts? 1,2,3,4,5,...10k$? If you want more than approx. +150HP... its better to have a second car in your garage. :) What kind of kits do you like? Conventionally NA-Tuning or charged engines?

We need a little framework of your conceptions to give some suitable answers...
