Best Radar Detector???

Everybody preaches that the Valentine 1 is the best on the market. However, i was looking at these radar detectors from Rocky Mountain Radar and they seem better for less money. The rock mountain device deects radar and lasar but also scarmbles the radar and lasar. The pig shoots u and nothing registers on his gun. If it really works, which i have no clue that it does, this sounds 10 times better than V1 and the V1 is 399 were as the detector / scrambler from rocky mountain radar is only 299. I AM LOOKING FOR ADVICE.............. 1.) Do the scramblers really work? 2.) Is Valentine the best? 3.) What should i get..

ps:: scramblers are illegal in OK, MN, VA, CA, NE, UT, and Washington, D.C. sorry

here is the web site http://www.rockymountainradar.com/product_detail.sstg?product_code=feabddfd61fd4949

all you need is a Escort Passport 8500 or a Valentine 1 .... those are the best hands down ...

dont worry about all that other stuff

Ben

ps- scramblers will only get you in trouble with the cops and the FCC ... dont use them ... and remember the best way to avoid tickets is not to speed =)

Guys just because all the mags and word of mouth says one is best doesn't mean it is. When i bought mine over here everyone thought the road angel or snooper systems were the best. (each cost around £500) i picked up mine for £200 it has better detection range is alot more discreet and gives me a better mirror!! do some research your self compare all the systems and make your own mind up

Are radar detectors illegal?
In some states (OK, MN, VA, CA, NE, UT, and Washington, D.C.) they are. But in all others they aren't. This assumes your location "Gee" is in the US, otherwise this info is useless.......

Don't bother with a scrambler, they are not worth the money as they don't always do their job. Also, don't bother with Rocky Mountain Radar. Your best bet is to invest in a V1 or a Passport 8500.

Elussive I have a Passport 8500. I am also from Jersey. Do you know if radars are illegal here? And just out curiosity, why do you drive an Infiniti instead of a proven handling driving machine like a bimmer :)

Ellusive Y dont bother with scramblers? Are they not 100% efficent? Just saw R.R.Radar and thought; 299 with lasar and radar detection and radar and lasar scrambler VS valentine 1 399 with just radar/lasar detection. Like 100 dollars difernce and it has Radar/Lasar Scrambler. I live in Maryland and there is no law against them soooooo???????? Just everybody is all about V1 were as this Co. offers detection and then scrambles that radar so u could fly by a cop and he wouldnt be able to even get a read on ur speed. Help me out here; am i totally nuts or am i being a smart consumer? [driving]

Valentine 1 has a few features the others don't, like detecting radar from the front and from the rear. Multiple bogey detections and the direction of the detection. Plus they never become obsolete, because you can add software or hardware upgrades to make them current with the newest models. My thoughts are for the money, they are hands down the best units available.

Read this and you will agree that jammers are just a waste of money: http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=6000.
Spend all your money on a good radar detector such as the Passport 8500 or ValentineOne and speed smartly, and you shouldn't have a problem with the cops. [driving]

My decision was between the 330Ci and the G35 Coupe, and I just went for the alternative this time and I don't regret it at all...I fell for the styling and the engine. I love every minute of driving the G35 Coupe and I don't regret it one bit, but next time around, I won't make the same "mistake". BMW all the way. [bmwkick]

I know for sure that radar detectors are NOT illegal in california. You can have them. I've even had cops confirm that. The only states that I'm aware of where they're not allowed is VA and Washington D.C.

Jammers are another story. I think technically, they're illegal everywhere b/c they run afoul of FCC regs even if a state's laws don't deal with them.

If you want radar detectors, stick with an the V1 or 8500. You get both sides championing their favorite and you won't get either side to change. THey're both good so you can't really lose. Just remember that cops don't always use radar and instant on radar is damn near impossible to beat so dont rely solely on the detector.

Go to RadarTest.com and check out the Radar/Lazer jammers, and the you will see that they are just a gimmik, I have a Pasport Escort 8500 and it is just incredible!!! I'm sure the Valentine is good too, but it's really big and bulky!!!

Yeah, jammers are a big step up in the risk game. There's a big difference between screwing around on a CB radio and radar jammers. If you get caught with one, you have violated at least 3 Federal laws:
1 - Operation of a transmitting device that is not "type accepted" meaning the FCC has not tested and approved the unit for harmful interference, noise, etc.
2 - Operation of a transmitting device in a licensed band without a license.
3 - Willful and intentional interference with a licensed operator (the police)

You don't want to f&$@ with the FCC [paranoid] - those dudes take their job seriously, especially when you mess with law enforcement agencies. Conviction could end up with fines in the $10,000 - $30,000 range, and if they wanted to make an example out of you, they could confiscate your car and you could wind up in jail for a couple of months up to a year.

I'm a licensed Amateur Radio Operator (ham). Several mags that I read publish reports about stuff like this and the actions the FCC takes. It isn't pretty.....
