I recently bought a 323is that was suppose to have been upgraded to a m3. I don't know how thats possible and what mods but I dont know what to look for. Im kinda wondering that it isnt because it isnt as fast as i thought it would be. Any help on what mods to look for and if isnt upgraded to a m3 what can i do besides a engine swap? Sorry Im new to this bmw thing.

It takes a lot of changes to upgrade a car to a true M3. Engine, MAJOR suspension changes (struts, shocks, mounts, bushings, etc.), wheels, welding in subframe plates, exhaust, etc. Sorry, but I think someone was leading you on.

This question comes up ocasionally. The answer is that it will cost you ALOT less to sell the 323is and buy an M3 of the same year. It will cost you $10K+ to buy all the parts, plus labor, at least for new parts. You might scrounge used parts, maybe for $3K to $5K plus labor.

Or you could sell the 323 and get a used M3 for the same $3K - $10K more, no labor, and a real M3.

If you are looking just for engine performance, you can gain 15 - 30 hp with a Shark Injector and performance exhaust. Or supercharge it.

Usually people stick on the M3 body styling kit (bumpers, skirts, spoiler and wheels) and then in some cases change the badge on the bootlid as well. So really all that they have is a car that looks like an M3.

I don't know a single person who has bought a normal E36 and then spent the serious £££££/$$$$$ to do the full conversion (engine, cooling, transmission, suspension, interior, dash cluster, exterior etc etc) as mentioned by Kirby in the previous post.

It really is soooooo much cheaper to simply add a little more money to your budget and get the genuine article.

To go faster, I personally don't bother with exhausts and filters alone, as the small gains are not really worth it, in my opinion. But Supercharging is a great option, but the cost of that would buy you an genuine M3 pretty much anyway [:)]
